Harnesses are more comfortable for some dogs and prevent excessive pressure on their neck and throat. Get the best collar for a specific problem dog. Have a pet trainer recommend how to fit and instruction on how to use the harness.
Break-away collar is used for cats. It is designed to unfasten if the collar becomes caught on something.
Nylon slip collars are excellent for showing dogs. Not good for walking, because could cause injury if the dog bolts.
Martingale-style collar this collar is good for dogs whose head is smaller than their neck, making it easy to slip out of a standard collar.
Choker chains should only be used when walking or training a dog. Should not be worn after walking or training. The collar can become caught on something causing injury or death.
Electronic collar should be used only for training or in the yard. Should not be worn to walk a dog.
A front-clip harness will divert the force your dog puts into pulling. Buy a good book or get it from the library on reward-based training can help, and so can a class or private lessons. Ultimately, you’ve got to do the work to get the results you want.
Keep the counter including the sink clear at all times. If there is food left out, the cat will continue to go there.
Cats Like Fresh Running Water Some cats also are attracted to running water in the kitchen sink, and they like to drinking it.
Confine the cat during mealtime, or meal preparation. If your cat simply won’t stay off the counters while you’re working with food, confine the cat safely in a cat-proofed room with bedding, toys, water and at least one litter box. Let cat out as soon as you are finished.
Play with your cat at least once a day. This gives your cat an appropriate way to earn attention and burn excess energy.
Never hit or yell at cats to keep them off counters. Cats don't connect punishment to behavior, so they will just learn to be afraid of you. Cats are smart enough to avoid something you disapprove of when you’re around, and then do it you’re not around.
Alternatives: For a few days keep typical landing areas on the counter covered with Sticky Paws double-sided tape. Cats hate the way it feels. It works like a charm on sofa edges for us too. Leave it on for a few weeks, then remove it—it shouldn’t be needed anymore. They avoid the area then. It seems to remove easily without damaging anything.
PLEASE NOTE: Sticky Paws may damage certain surfaces (including, without limitation, wood finishes, painted surfaces, leather, vinyl, and wallpaper), so ALWAYS TEST a small piece of Sticky Paws on an inconspicuous area before applying. Sticky Paws is ineffective on surfaces treated with non-stick and/or stain-repellent products, such as Scotchgard.
Try covering the countertop with aluminum foil.
You can try a motion detecting nontoxic sprayer called Ssscat that you can get on Amazon.com.
Cats are climbers by nature. It’s normal for cats to jump and climb to high places as they explore their environment. Pet and praise your cat when it uses the cat condo.
