CANCER IN PETS MISCONCEPTION
Pet owners believe healthier diets can cause or prevent cancer that is false. It is true that some ingredients are healthier than others. The pets' bodies and the cancer are very complex disease with both genetic and environmental effects.
“Superfood” can cause cancer or prevent cancer is false.
Carbohydrate and sugar, all cells whether healthy or cancerous use glucose as a source of energy. Tumor cells are usually replicating at a faster rate than healthy cells. They have a higher metabolic demand for fuel. Sugar doesn't make cancer grow faster. Depriving cancer cells of sugar doesn't slow their growth.
50% of all dogs and 30% of cats will be affected by a tumor in their lifetimes
Animals in a classroom can reduce stress and anxiety, improve social interaction and the positive motivation, learning and engaging children, help them to calmly sort through an argument, conflict, or assignment and even make it easier for children to make friends with classmates, teachers, and others in the community.
When an animal is in the classroom the students pay more attention to follow instructions and focus more on a task. The students ask more questions and engage more with the teacher. When there is a dog in the class the students improve there attitude and helps them to learn responsibility, respect, and empathy.
When we lose our beloved companion pet it affects everybody including the surviving pets. If the two pets are closely bonded the surviving pet is grieving the loss.
Here are the signs:
Patterns of sleeping changes
Not interested in eating
Not interested in activities
Wants to be alone
Searching the house for their pet friend
Pay a lot of attention to the surviving pet(s)
It is very important to be consistent with the daily schedule. Pets like their routine because they know what to expect. If the pet does not have the appetite put it away and reintroduce it at the next feeding time continue to offer the food at feeding time. Do not give the pet a treat until the pet eats the food. See the vet if the dog doesn't eat by the fifth day. Cats only a couple of days.
Allow the pet companion to be present during the euthanasia. Also, allow the friend to see and smell the body after it is dead.
Let's be thoughtful to our family and our pets companion not to bring a new pet home until everybody in your family can agree. Because the same family members may still be grieving.
3 medium sweet potatoes
Tiny pinch of Salt
½ cup low fat milk
2 medium eggs
2 tablespoons butter
Sour cream or cottage cheese
Boil the sweet potatoes with their skins in salted water for about 30 minutes or until tender. Mash and mix in the egg yolks and milk until smooth. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into mashed sweet potatoes. In a frying pan melt half of the butter when hot spoon a ping pong ball sized lump of the mashed potato mix into the pan. Flatten slightly with spatula and allow to brown well on both sides. Continue until all of the mixture is cooked adding butter as needed to avoid the potato pancakes sticking.
