Dogs: Be careful what words you choose when you have a puppy. Because they're learning a new vocabulary, some words will become indelibly imprinted on their minds.
If your dog tends to run away, be careful not to punish it in any way when it returns. This only teaches the dog not to come when you call. Instead, praise the dog when it does the right things.
Be sure that your dog is not bitten or scratched by a skunk, check for injuries. If you find any take the dog to your vet, even if the pet is up to date on its rabies vaccination. Bathe your dog as soon as possible, apply some mineral oil to the eyes and nose to help protect them during the bath process. If the dog has been sprayed by a skunk do not wet the dog down. Apply a DE-skunking solution directly to the dry dog. Using a sponge or brush, massage the solution into the dog's coat. Avoid eyes and nose as much as possible. Allow the solution to soak on your dog skin and hair coat for 5-10 minutes, rinse thoroughly with warm water. If the skunk odor persists, repeat the application again. Dry your dog thoroughly.
Diet Tips: If the dog is overweight, replace a portion of its normal food serving with a can of unsalted green beans. The green beans offer nutrition and bulk without the calories. You can also replace the dog treats with baby carrots cooked in low sodium chicken broth.
